To develop embroidery designs requires many steps from the first line of a sketch to the stitch data which you can send to the machine.

In many companies itís still a very inefficient process which incorporates many different tools produce the final result. Unfortunately these tools are in most cases not compatible with each other, so data respectively outlines cannot be exchanged and consequently they have to be traced in every tool again.

For example the designer uses imaging software to create a pixel sketch. The sketch is put in the background of an embroidery design program, where it must be traced and a technical design has to be elaborated. Finally the technical design will be passed to the puncher, who again cannot use the data directly, but must punch on top of the embroidery design in order to create the stitch data.
This procedure is extremely inefficient and time consuming and results in very long response times to customer requests.

Not with our ProFamily! ProArt & ProLace offer tools for every single step of the design development, from directly designing the sketch with a tablet to working out a simple first sketch, adding stitch data which are the base for a photorealistic 3D simulation of the design and finally the punched data.
All this can be done under one user interface by adding information in every single step of the design process and avoiding unnecessary retracing and data entries.
Direct sketching with a Tablet or Pen Display

The new
RECORD command enables designers to draw directly with a pen on a Windows Tablet Computer or on a Pen-Display like the Wacomģ Cintiq, Pen-displays are also available with a display size of up to 27 Inch where Tablet Computers are normally available only in smaller sizes.

If a Pen-Displays is too expensive and a Tablet Computer too small you can also use a normal tablet with pen.

If a designer draws directly with computer and pen the time consuming scanning and tracing of the hand sketch can be avoided.
ProLace translates the pen movements directly into polylines which can directly be used by most automatic stitches.

Direct sketching enables a designer to get quickly the outlines of a design, check the repeat connections and the layout for example of an allover design before starting to work out the details.
In this way extensive and time consuming editing of already elaborated designs can be avoided.


How to work out a simple sketch?

The advantage of using a computer over sketching on paper are the many powerful tools which are at the disposal of the designer.
With the computer itís anytime possible to refresh the right and left copy of the design to check the repeat connection. No copy machine, scissor and glue are required.
Unlike in standard imaging programs all the programs in ProLace are especially designed for the requirements of the embroidery designer. Among them you can find a tool to organize an allover design and to fill the whole fabric height with copies of the so called rang.
Also programs to fill an area with curves and patterns are available.

Even the definition of group blocks is supported and can help to make the design development even more efficient and straight forward.
As a first step in many cases a simple sketch just with outlines is required, but the sketch should be ready as quick as possible.
In this phase of the design development there is frequently no time to elaborate the details and to add stitches and all the technical information.

For this purpose a new sketching toolbar has been introduced which makes sketching on a tablet easier and contains functions to fill areas with colours for the representation of blatt stitches.
Also wide polyarcs can be designed for Edge and Step stitches.
A sketch designed with the internal ProLace features can easily be developed into a technical embroidery design with all stitches without retracing the whole sketch again. It integrates perfectly into our philosophy to add information in every single phase of the design development and to avoid unnecessary retracing and data entries.


Tracing a paper sketch with a tablet or a pen display

It is also possible to trace an existing paper sketch with a tablet or a pen display.
In this case before you can start tracing you have to synchronize the sketch with the repeat on the screen with the new CALIBDES command.
